Austin is the quirkiest city in Texas, perhaps even the USA. What’s not to love about a place that offers live music everywhere from the airport to the grocery stores? The city is also home to the largest urban bat colony in North America, and their nightly flight is a sight to behold in Downtown Austin. Plus, Austin is at the frontier of high-tech with Dell, Apple, Meta, Google and others all having a major presence here. When it’s time to chow down, you certainly won’t go hungry: you can have tacos for breakfast and barbecue is a way of life. You’ll find vegan offerings in most eateries as well. Best of all, it’s incredibly easy to reach: British Airways flies daily nonstop from London Heathrow and, starting May 25th, will be joined by four flights a week operated by Virgin Atlantic. With vibrant entertainment, art and culture, inspiring cuisine and stunning outdoor experiences, it’s time to put Austin on your list.

THE LIVE MUSIC FRONTIER

There’s a reason Austin is known as the Live Music Capital of the World®! Beginning as a frontier for blues and Americana music, the city has a long and storied history that’s interwoven with the many diverse people and cultures that have resided in Central Texas for generations. With hundreds of live-music joints here, you’ll easily find your frontier, whether you’re into country, bluegrass, rock, salsa or dance music. There’s a unique atmosphere when SXSW (South By Southwest) and Austin City Limits music festivals are taking place, but dust off your favourite outfit and comfiest boots because you’ll find the city rocking every night of the year.

THE OUTDOOR FRONTIER

In Austin, these boots were definitely made for walking. There are some awesome hiking trails within the city limits, whether you’re going for a run around the 10-mile downtown loop that encircles Lady Bird Lake, hiking to a hidden swimming hole or heading to the nearby Hill Country. And almost-year-round sunshine makes any walk a pleasure. When summer comes along and it’s time to cool off, take a dip at the three-acre Barton Springs Pool - a natural, spring-fed swimming pool that stays a consistent 68 degrees year-round. Or go stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking on Lady Bird Lake, and keep an eye out for the colony of Mexican free-tailed bats that fly out from the Congress Avenue Bridge each evening from spring to fall.

THE ARTS & CULTURE FRONTIER

There’s something happening every day in Austin. Go on a street art tour to look at the city’s colourful murals and stop by the Cathedral of Junk on Lareina Drive, where old furniture and rusty bicycles have been given a creative resting place. Forgive us in advance if you find a street blocked off for filming – it’s probably another Oscar-winning film by Richard Linklater being made here. Check out what festivals are taking place: you might be in time for a rodeo, a celebration of Latin heritage or the best in international comedy. But our creative scene reaches far beyond the festival circuit. Our local creatives, artists and makers are the heart and soul of Austin, and they fuel a creative spirit that can be witnessed any time of year.
